HMOs Report Higher Member-to-PCP Ratio
The number of HMO members per PCP continued to edge up, to 158 in 2010 from a low of 146 in 2008. With the current emphasis on coordinated care models and incentives for physicians to become PCPs, this metric may again revert downward; however, the 2010 upswing in this ratio could be indicative of preventive care measures taken by HMOs.
